FAQ Q: Can advanTRAK be installed and utilized on a single PC? A: Yes, advanTRAK can be installed and used on most desktop or laptop Windows PC's running Windows 2000 or above.
Q: Can advanTRAK be implemented in a multi-user networked configuration? A:
Yes, advanTRAK's Microsoft SQL Server database engine provides a robust
and reliable platform for multi-user implementation on your network.
Q:
Since advanTRAK uses a Microsoft SQL database, does this mean that I
need to purchase special server or client licenses to run advanTRAK?
A:
No. advanTRAK is designed to work with Microsoft's free SQL Server
Express database. You only need to purchase advanTRAK licenses for the
PC's that you wish to install the software on. No further server or
client licenses need to be purchased.
Q: Are there any limitations to SQL Server Express versus full Microsoft SQL Server databases? A:
Yes, while SQL Server Express has most features of full Microsoft SQL
Server, it does not include some of the more advanced administrative
tools found with full Microsoft SQL Server software. For most advanTRAK
installations, there will be no noticeable performance issues. However,
there are some limitations that may affect performance in very large
multi-user network environments. For example, SQL Server Express is
limited to using one CPU at a time, so if you install it on a server
with multiple CPU's, it will not take advantage of available multiple
processors.
Q: Are there other limitations of SQL Server Express, and should I be concerned with these? A:
SQL Server Express limits overall database size to 4 GB, and available
memory for it's data buffer to a maximum of 1 GB. Again, these
limitations will not be noticeable for smaller and medium sized
applications.
Q: Can I use advanTRAK with a full version of Microsoft SQL Server? A:
Yes, advanTRAK is fully compatible with other full versions of
Microsoft SQL Server 2005. If you already have server and client
licenses, contact us for help in connecting advanTRAK to your full SQL
Server 2005 database, instead of the default SQL Server Express
database.
